Lens & field-of-view calculator

What field of view this lens gives, how wide it covers at the chosen distance, and how much pixel density is left on target.

How it is calculated

  1. The field of view comes from the lens geometry: HFOV = 2 · atan(sensor width ÷ (2 × focal length)).
  2. Scene width is the base of the triangle at that distance: width = 2 · distance · tan(HFOV ÷ 2).
  3. Density is horizontal resolution divided by the covered width, in pixels per metre — and that is the value IEC/EN 62676-4 classifies.
